Week 3 Basics of Christianity: 1 John 1:1-2:11

I. Jesus is the Word of Life. (1 John 1:1-4)
*God’s visible message of Love to us.
A. He is God.
B. He was one with the Father.
C. He became man.
D. He is God’s only begotten son.
E. He is the Savior.
F. He is the Anointed one.
G. He is Light.
II. God is Light. (1John 1:5-2:3)
*A=B, B=C & C=D
*Jesus= Light, God =Light, so Jesus =God
*God =Light, God=Love, so Light=Love. (1John 1:5, 4:8)
*Believer= Light, Believer=Love, so Believer=Body of God (1Jn 2:10, Jn. 10:34, 5:18)
* Unbeliever=Dark, Unbeliever= No Love, Dark=No Love. (John 13:9)
A. If we walk in the light or love then:
1. We have fellowship with God.
2. We are forgiven.
3. We won’t practice sin—love of self.
4. We have an advocate in Jesus.
5. We have a satisfying payment for our sin.
6. We know Him.
7. Our love is perfected or mature.
8. We walk in the same manner.
9. No cause for stumbling in Him.
10. The Light is already shining.
11. The one who loves abides in the Light.
B. If we walk in the dark or without love then:
1. We are liars, if we say we have fellowship with God.
2. We are liars, if we say we have no sin.
3. We make God a liar, if we say we have no sin.
4. The Word is not in us.
5. We are liars, if we hate our brother & say we walk in the Light.
6. We don’t know where we are going.
7. We are blind.
* 2 Timothy 3:1-7—Those who live without love of others may have a form of godliness (Religion), but they deny the power of God’s love in their life.
* Matt. 7: 21-23—Not everyone who calls Jesus Lord will enter the kingdom.
* 1 Cor. 13: 1-3—You can call Him God and do all the right things and say all the right things, but if you do not have Love (God) in your heart, then He is not your real Lord and it doesn’t do you any good.
